What is ATS and Why It Matters
ATS (Applicant Tracking System) is software that companies use to filter resumes before a human sees them. In India, platforms like Naukri, LinkedIn, and most MNCs use ATS. If your resume isn't ATS-compatible, it gets rejected automatically.
ATS-Friendly Resume Rules
- Use standard fonts: Arial, Calibri, Helvetica, Times New Roman
- No fancy formatting: No tables, columns, text boxes, or graphics
- Use standard section headings: "Education", "Experience", "Skills" — not creative names
- Include keywords from the job description: ATS matches keywords
- Save as PDF: Not DOCX, not image
Indian Resume Must-Haves
Indian employers expect specific fields that Western resumes don't have:
- Date of Birth
- Father's Name
- Gender and Marital Status
- Address with PIN Code
- Declaration section ("I hereby declare...")
- Languages Known
