Every salaried employee in India who claims House Rent Allowance (HRA) exemption must provide rent receipts to their employer. This is mandatory under Section 10(13A) of the Income Tax Act.
HRA Exemption Rules You Must Know
- Monthly rent above Rs. 3,000: Rent receipts are mandatory
- Monthly rent above Rs. 5,000: Revenue stamp of Re. 1 is required on each receipt
- Annual rent above Rs. 1,00,000: Landlord's PAN number is mandatory
- Receipts must include: Tenant name, landlord name, address, amount, period, signature

Revenue Stamp: When and How

Landlord PAN: When It's Mandatory
