Frequently Asked Questions
Are all the styling features really free?
Yes. Logo upload, linear and radial gradients, six dot shapes (square, dots, rounded, classy, classy-rounded, extra-rounded), three eye shapes, and PNG / SVG / JPEG / WebP downloads — none of it is gated behind a sign-up or a Pro tier. There's no watermark on the output either.
What content types can I encode?
Eight: URL, plain text, email (with optional subject and body), SMS (with optional pre-filled message), phone call, Wi-Fi credentials (WPA / WEP / open, hidden network supported), vCard 3.0 contact, and iCal calendar event.
Can I add my logo to the QR code?
Yes — upload a PNG, JPG, or SVG up to 2 MB. You can adjust the logo's size between 10–50% of the QR, and a 'clear dots behind logo' option keeps the code scannable. We recommend keeping logo size at 30–40% and using error correction level Q or H (default is Q).
Does my data leave my device?
No. The whole tool runs client-side via the qr-code-styling library. Your URLs, vCard contact details, Wi-Fi passwords, calendar events, and uploaded logo never touch a CleverTools server — nothing is logged, cached, or sent anywhere.
Which export format should I use?
Use SVG when you need to print at any size or embed in a design tool — it's vector. Use PNG (default) for web, social, and most printing. Use WebP if you're optimising for fast page loads on the web. Use JPEG only when you really need it (it's lossy and not ideal for QR contrast).
Will styled QR codes still scan?
Yes — the underlying QR matrix is unchanged; only the visual rendering of dots and eyes differs. Always test with two phones (iOS and Android) before printing in volume. If a styled code seems borderline, raise the error correction level to H (30%) or simplify the dot shape.
What's the largest QR I can generate?
Up to 1024 × 1024 pixels in PNG / WebP / JPEG, and any size in SVG (it's vector). The 'Size' slider controls the rasterised export resolution; the SVG download has no resolution cap.
Why use vCard or Event QR codes instead of a link?
vCard QR codes save the contact directly into the scanner's phone book in one tap — no signup, no app, no link to a fragile profile page. Event QR codes drop the meeting straight into the user's calendar with title, time, location, and description. Both work on iOS and Android natively, even when offline.
