Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate a discount?
Multiply the price by (1 - discount / 100). For example, 20% off ₹2,499 is 2,499 × 0.8 = ₹1,999.20, so you save ₹499.80. The calculator does this as you type.
Why is 40% + 10% off not 50% off?
The extra 10% is taken from the price after the first 40% comes off. On ₹1,000, 40% off leaves ₹600, and 10% of ₹600 is ₹60, so you pay ₹540: 46% off in total, not 50%.
How do I find the original price from the sale price?
Divide the sale price by (1 - discount / 100). If you paid ₹1,500 after 25% off, the original price was 1,500 / 0.75 = ₹2,000. Use the Original mode.
How do I turn a flat amount off into a percentage?
Divide the amount off by the original price and multiply by 100. ₹300 off ₹1,500 is (300 / 1,500) × 100 = 20% off. Use the ₹ off mode.
Is GST charged before or after the discount?
After. Under section 15(3)(a) of the CGST Act, a discount given before or at the time of the sale and shown on the invoice is not part of the value GST is charged on. The calculator adds GST to the discounted price.
Which GST rates can I add?
5% (merit rate), 18% (standard rate) and 40% (special rate), the rates in force since 22 September 2025, or any custom rate from 0 to 100%.
Is this discount calculator free?
Yes. Percent off, amount off, original price, stacked discounts and GST are all free with no sign-up, and every sum is worked out in your browser.
Discount kaise nikale?
Discount = Price × Discount% / 100, aur final price = Price - Discount. Jaise ₹2,000 par 40% off: 2,000 × 40 / 100 = ₹800 discount, final price ₹1,200. 40% + 10% extra ka matlab 46% off hota hai, 50% nahi.
