Frequently Asked Questions
What are the New Tax Regime slabs for FY 2025-26?
Updated for Union Budget 2025: ₹0-4L is 0%, ₹4-8L is 5%, ₹8-12L is 10%, ₹12-16L is 15%, ₹16-20L is 20%, ₹20-24L is 25%, and above ₹24L is 30%. Standard deduction is ₹75,000 and Section 87A rebate now applies up to ₹12 lakh taxable income - making zero tax payable up to ₹12.75 lakh gross.
Why does my tax come to zero up to ₹12.75 lakh?
FY 2025-26 raised the Section 87A rebate to ₹12 lakh of taxable income. After the ₹75,000 standard deduction, that means anyone earning up to ₹12,75,000 gross has their entire computed tax wiped out by the rebate - a major change from the old ₹7-lakh threshold.
Which regime is better - old or new?
Use the Compare view above. As a rough rule: if your old-regime deductions (80C + 80D + HRA + home loan interest etc.) total ₹4 lakh or more, the Old Regime usually wins for incomes above ₹15L. For most salaried people without large deductions, the New Regime with the ₹12L rebate is typically cheaper.
What is Section 87A rebate?
Section 87A provides a rebate that fully wipes out your computed tax (capped at ₹60,000 for the new regime, ₹12,500 for the old) if your taxable income is below the threshold. New regime threshold: ₹12 lakh (FY 2025-26). Old regime threshold: ₹5 lakh.
What is the standard deduction?
A flat deduction subtracted from gross salary income. ₹75,000 in the New Regime, ₹50,000 in the Old Regime for FY 2025-26. The calculator applies it automatically.
Is the 4% cess included in the total?
Yes. After the rebate is applied, a 4% Health & Education Cess is added to the remaining tax to give your final liability. The breakdown card shows tax-before-cess and cess separately so you can see how the total is built.
Does this calculator include surcharge for high incomes?
No. Surcharge applies for incomes above ₹50 lakh and steps up at ₹1 crore / ₹2 crore / ₹5 crore. This calculator covers standard slab tax + cess for the typical salaried range. For high-net-worth cases, consult a Chartered Accountant.
Is my salary data uploaded anywhere?
No. The calculator runs entirely in your browser - no server call, no analytics on income figures, nothing logged. Refreshing the page wipes everything.
