Frequently Asked Questions
What does a text formatter do?
It takes text that arrived in the wrong shape and fixes it. This one removes markdown symbols, joins lines that break mid-sentence, collapses extra spaces and blank lines, strips invisible characters, changes case and adds bold or italic that works on social media. You see the original and the cleaned version side by side, and the result updates as you change options.
How do I remove the ** and ## symbols from ChatGPT text?
Paste the reply and pick the Clean AI text preset. It removes heading hashes, double asterisks, backticks and quote markers, turns - and * lists into • bullets and replaces em dashes with plain hyphens. The words stay exactly as written; only the formatting symbols go. The same works for Claude, Gemini and Copilot output.
How do I make text bold on LinkedIn?
LinkedIn has no bold button, so bold text there is made of special Unicode letters that look bold. Select the words in Your text and click the bold B, or use the LinkedIn post preset, which turns every **bold** phrase from an AI reply into Unicode bold automatically. Copy the result and paste it into your post.
Does Unicode bold work on X, Instagram and Facebook too?
Yes. The letters are ordinary Unicode characters, so they show as bold or italic anywhere that displays text, including X, Instagram, Facebook and most messaging apps. WhatsApp is the exception worth knowing: it has its own *bold* and _italic_ syntax, which the WhatsApp Formatter on this site handles.
Is there a downside to Unicode bold text?
Two. Screen readers may read the styled letters one by one or skip them, so keep bold to a few words rather than whole paragraphs. And search, including LinkedIn's own, does not match styled letters against normal ones, so do not style keywords you want people to find. The Aa button turns styled text back into plain letters.
How do I fix line breaks in text copied from a PDF?
Use the Fix copied text preset. PDFs break lines at the edge of the page, so a pasted paragraph arrives with a line break every few words. The tool joins lines inside each paragraph, rejoins words hyphenated across a line, and keeps real paragraph breaks and numbered or bulleted lists intact.
Can I change text to uppercase, lowercase or title case?
Yes. The Case option offers UPPER, lower, Sentence case, Title Case and alternating case. Title Case keeps small words such as a, the and of in lower case unless they start a line. Case is applied before any Unicode styling, so bold letters are never mangled by a case change.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. All formatting runs in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing you paste is sent to a server, logged or stored, which makes it safe for client drafts, internal emails and unpublished posts. Your chosen options are remembered in your own browser so they are ready next time.
Why does the character count differ from LinkedIn's?
The tool counts each visible character once, including each Unicode bold letter. Some platforms count a styled letter as two characters internally, so a post full of bold text can hit the limit sooner than the count here suggests. If you are close to LinkedIn's 3,000-character limit, leave a little room.
Text formatter kaise use kare?
Apna text box mein paste kijiye aur Clean & format text dabaiye. Phir ek preset chuniye: ChatGPT ka text saaf karne ke liye Clean AI text, LinkedIn ke liye LinkedIn post, aur PDF se copy kiye text ke liye Fix copied text. Formatted text turant dikh jaata hai, use Copy button se copy kar lijiye.
Why text arrives in the wrong format
Most messy text has one of three causes. The first is markdown. ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini write their answers in markdown, a plain-text format where **double asterisks** mean bold and ## means a heading. In the chat window those symbols are rendered and you never see them, but copy the answer into an email, a Word document or a LinkedIn post and they come along as literal characters.
The second is layout. A PDF stores text as lines positioned on a page, not as paragraphs. When you copy from it, every line ends with a hard break, so a paragraph pastes as a column of fragments. Email clients do something similar when they wrap long lines, and words hyphenated at the end of a line arrive split in two.
The third is invisible characters: zero-width spaces, soft hyphens and non-breaking spaces. They come from web pages, word processors and AI tools, and they cause odd problems later, such as a search that fails to match, a form that rejects input, or spacing that refuses to line up. Because you cannot see them, they are hard to remove by hand.
How the presets work
Each preset is a set of the cleanup options in the sidebar, chosen for a common job, and you can switch any option on or off afterwards. Clean AI text removes markdown symbols, turns list markers into • bullets, replaces em dashes with hyphens, trims stray spaces and removes extra blank lines. It leaves your words untouched; only the formatting changes.
LinkedIn post does the same cleanup but converts every **bold** phrase into Unicode bold, so the emphasis survives on a platform that has no bold button. Fix copied text joins lines broken inside paragraphs while keeping real paragraph breaks and lists, rejoins hyphenated words, and straightens curly quotes. Plain text strips everything down, including emoji, for forms and systems that only accept simple characters.
The order of operations matters and is fixed. Invisible characters go first, then case, then markdown and styling, then spacing. Case is applied before Unicode styling because styled letters are separate characters that ignore upper and lower case, so changing case afterwards would leave them untouched.
Unicode bold and italic: what they are and when to use them
LinkedIn, X and Instagram strip ordinary formatting from posts. The bold you see in many posts is made of characters from the Unicode Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, letters designed for maths that happen to look bold, italic or monospaced. Because they are characters rather than formatting, they survive copy and paste anywhere.
They have real costs, so use them sparingly. Screen readers may read them letter by letter or skip them entirely, which makes a fully bold post hard to follow for people who rely on one. Search engines and in-platform search treat them as different characters from normal letters, so a bolded keyword is effectively invisible to search. Bold a short hook or a few key words, not whole paragraphs.
If you receive text that is already styled, the Aa button converts it back to plain letters. That is useful before pasting a LinkedIn post into a document or a CMS, where the styled characters would otherwise look out of place or break search.
| Markdown (**bold**) | Unicode bold (𝗯𝗼𝗹𝗱) | WhatsApp (*bold*) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Where it shows as bold | Chat apps, GitHub, docs tools | Everywhere text appears | WhatsApp only |
| LinkedIn and X | Shows the asterisks | Shows as bold | Shows the asterisks |
| Screen readers | Read normally | Often read poorly | Read normally |
| Searchable | Yes | No | Yes |
| Best for | Documents and notes | A few words in social posts | WhatsApp messages |
The same emphasis in three systems. Pick the one that matches where the text is going.
