Is the Word to PDF converter actually free?
Yes — unlimited .docx → PDF conversions, no signup, no daily cap, no watermark on the output. Batch up to 10 files per run; queue more after the first batch finishes.
Does my Word document leave my device?
No. mammoth.js parses your .docx and html2canvas + jsPDF write the PDF entirely in your browser. The document content, embedded images, formatting, and the resulting PDF are never sent to any CleverTools server — safe for resumes, salary letters, NDAs, and other confidential drafts.
Can I convert .doc (legacy) files?
No — only modern .docx is supported, since the .doc binary format is closed and can't be reliably parsed in a browser. To convert .doc, open it in Microsoft Word, LibreOffice, or Google Docs and save as .docx first, then run it through this tool.
Why is the text in the output PDF not selectable?
The conversion pipeline rasterises each page (renders it as a high-DPI image, then embeds the image in the PDF) — this preserves visual fidelity but means text isn't selectable. It's a fair trade-off for a fully-private, in-browser pipeline. For vector / selectable-text PDFs, use Microsoft Word's or LibreOffice's built-in 'Save as PDF' (those run locally on your machine too, so privacy is similar).
Can I batch-convert multiple Word files at once?
Yes. Drop up to 10 .docx files into the queue, click 'Convert all', and download each PDF individually or grab the whole batch as a ZIP. Settings (page size + margins) apply to every file in the batch.
Which page sizes and margins are available?
Page sizes: A4 (210 × 297 mm — default for India / Europe), US Letter (8.5 × 11 in — default for the US), and US Legal (8.5 × 14 in — long-form contracts). Margins: Narrow (12 mm), Normal (25 mm), Wide (38 mm). Custom values aren't exposed in the UI yet — request via feedback.
How big a Word file can it handle?
Up to 25 MB per file. Most resumes, contracts, and reports are well under 1 MB. The cap exists because everything runs in the browser — html2canvas can OOM on huge documents with many embedded images. Split very large documents into sections first.
Will my formatting (headings, lists, tables, images) survive?
Headings, paragraphs, bold / italic, bullet and numbered lists, and simple tables all carry over. Embedded images render through mammoth.js correctly. Advanced features — track changes, comments, footnotes, fancy text effects, math equations — may render simplified or be skipped entirely.
