Frequently Asked Questions
Is the text actually removed, or just covered?
Actually removed on every page that contains a redaction. The tool re-renders those pages as flattened images (at 2× source resolution so quality stays sharp) with the black boxes painted directly into the pixels, then replaces the original page with the image-only version. The text under the black box no longer exists in the saved PDF — you can verify by running `pdftotext` on the output or opening in Adobe Acrobat and trying to select the redacted area. Pages with no redactions are passed through unchanged.
What about form fields, comments, and PDF metadata?
Pages that get redactions are flattened to images, so any AcroForm widgets, annotations (sticky notes, link URLs), and hidden text layers on those pages are removed along with the underlying text. Document-level metadata (Title / Author / Subject / Keywords / Producer / Creator) is stripped from the output too. If a page has zero redactions, it's passed through with its original form fields, hyperlinks, and metadata intact — redact at least one box on a page if you want everything on it gone.
Can I redact multiple areas across multiple pages?
Yes — draw as many redaction boxes as needed on any page. The per-page thumbnail strip shows a red count badge so you can see at a glance which pages have redactions. Each redacted page is independently flattened in the output.
Is this safe for KYC / legal / GDPR-sensitive documents?
The redacted text is genuinely unrecoverable from the output PDF (raster-and-cover, not visual overlay), and the entire workflow runs in your browser — files never reach a server. For legal-grade redaction we still recommend independently verifying the output with `pdftotext` or by opening in Adobe Acrobat and trying to select the redacted areas. For high-stakes regulated workflows (court filings, HIPAA-grade redaction), consider also clearing your PDF reader's clipboard + downloads cache after sharing the redacted file.
