How to use this photo and signature tool

The tool crops from the centre, so start with a photo where your face is in the middle and a signature with little empty paper around it.

    Read your notice

    Rules change between years and exams. Compare the preset with the notice you are applying under.

    Use a clean original

    A sharp photo on a plain light wall, and a signature in black ink on white paper.

  3. 3

    Watch the checks

    A red mark means the file misses the preset. Replace the image rather than uploading it.

  4. 4

    Keep the files

    Save the downloads. Many forms ask for the same photo and signature again later.

Getting a photo and signature accepted

Habits drawn from the rules the notices repeat.

Photo

Plain light background

IBPS asks for a light, preferably white, background; NTA asks for white.

Fill the frame

NTA asks that about 80% of the photo is your face, with ears visible and no mask.

Black ink, white paper

IBPS, RRB and UPSC all ask for black ink on white paper.

Size

Respect both limits

Some notices set a minimum KB as well as a maximum. Too small can be rejected too.

Central exam applicants

UPSC and SSC

UPSC wants an uploaded photo and three signatures; SSC takes the photo live and only needs the signature file.

Bank and railway applicants

IBPS and RRB

IBPS fixes pixels for both files. RRB takes the photo live and wants a 30 to 49 KB signature.

Use: IBPS PO/MT or RRB preset

Entrance exam students

NEET, JEE, CUET

NTA forms take 10 to 200 KB photos with a white background and most of the frame filled by the face.

PAN and passport forms

Identity documents

PAN scanned uploads need small files at 200 DPI. Passport forms at DPC, Speed Post or CSC need a printed photo.

Keeping your files ready

Most applicants fill several forms a year.

  1. 1

    Keep the originals

    Store the full-size photo and signature scan. Make new copies for each form from those.

  2. 2

    Name by exam

    Downloads are named after the preset, like ibps-po-xv_photo, so you can tell them apart.

  3. 3

    Update the photo

    Notices ask for a recent photo. Take a new one when your look changes.

  4. 4

    Re-check each year

    Limits change between notices. Check the new notice even for an exam you applied to before.

Pro tips for a first-time accept

Small checks that avoid a rejected form.

Shoot in daylight

Face a window. Avoid overhead light that throws shadows under the eyes.

Centre your face

The crop keeps the centre. Leave space around your head in the original.

Fill the paper

Crop your signature scan close before upload, so it isn't tiny in the box.

Plain paper only

Ruled or coloured paper shows up as lines and fails the background check.

Below the minimum?

Use a sharper or bigger original. Fixed-pixel presets can't be enlarged.

Custom size

For any other notice, type its pixels and KB range into Custom size.

iPhone photos

HEIC photos may not open in your browser. Share or export the photo as JPG from your phone first.

Passport photos

Get them printed on photo paper. The booklet says computer prints are not accepted.

Each preset quotes a notice we checked. If your notice says something else, follow your notice and use Custom size.

What is the JEE Main photo size?
A colour JPG between 10 KB and 200 KB with a white background. Your face, with ears visible and no mask, should fill about 80% of the frame.
Is the live photo the same as the uploaded photo?
No. You upload a recent passport-style photo file and also take a live photo during the form. This tool prepares the uploaded file.
