Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate my GPA?
A common method: turn each grade into grade points (A 4.0, A- 3.7, B+ 3.3 and so on), multiply by the course's credits, add those up and divide by the total credits. An A in 3 credits, a B+ in 4 and a C in 3 give (12 + 13.2 + 6) ÷ 10 = 3.12.
What is the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?
Unweighted GPA counts every course on the same 4.0 scale. Weighted GPA adds a bonus for harder courses, often +0.5 for Honors and +1.0 for AP or IB, so an A in an AP class counts as 5.0. Schools choose their own bonus, so pick the one yours uses.
How do I calculate my cumulative GPA?
Multiply your current GPA by your credits so far, add this term's quality points, and divide by all your credits. A 3.40 on 45 credits plus a 3.12 term on 10 credits gives (153 + 31.2) ÷ 55 = 3.35.
What GPA do I need this semester to reach my goal?
Use Target mode. It works out (target × all credits − current GPA × credits so far) ÷ this term's credits. With a 3.00 on 30 credits and 15 credits this term, a 3.20 goal needs a 3.60 term. If the answer is above the top of the scale, it says the goal can't be reached this term.
Is an A+ worth 4.0 or 4.3?
It depends on the school. Many count an A+ as 4.0, the same as an A; some count it higher (NC State lists 4.333). Choose 4.0 or 4.3 in the tool, or type any value in the grade scale.
Do pass/fail classes count in GPA?
Usually not. Pass/fail and credit/no credit courses earn credits but are left out of the GPA at most schools. Set the course type to Pass/fail and the tool keeps it out of the GPA while showing its credits.
Is this the same as a CGPA to percentage converter?
No. This works out a US-style GPA on the 4.0 scale from letter grades and credits. If your university grades on a 10-point CGPA, as many in India do, use the CGPA to Percentage converter instead.
Is my data saved or uploaded?
Nothing is uploaded: the maths runs in your browser. Your courses, grade scale and settings are saved in this browser's local storage so they are there next time. Clear courses removes them, and a private window keeps nothing.
