Compress Image for WhatsApp

WhatsApp auto-compresses every photo you send - badly. Pre-compress your image with our tool first and WhatsApp will leave it mostly alone, so the recipient sees the quality you actually wanted. Targets the 16 MB document-mode cap, or aim for under 1 MB for instant in-chat sending.

When to use this

Use when: sharing event photos with family, sending product photos to clients on WhatsApp Business, forwarding scanned documents, sharing screenshots that would otherwise become unreadable after WhatsApp's compression.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does WhatsApp compress my photos?

To save bandwidth and storage. WhatsApp auto-resizes to ~800-1600 pixels wide and re-encodes JPEG aggressively. If you send the photo as a 'Document' instead of an 'Image', it skips compression - but file size limits still apply (100 MB for documents).

How small should I make my photos?

For best results, target 1280-1920 pixels wide at 70-80% JPEG quality. This typically produces 200-500 KB files that WhatsApp won't re-compress noticeably.
