Compress PNG Online Free

PNG files are notoriously large because they're lossless by design - great for logos and screenshots, terrible for photos. Our compressor uses palette optimization (lossless) for graphics with limited colors, or converts to WebP/JPG (lossy) for photo-like PNGs to cut file size by 60-90%.

When to use this

PNG-compression scenarios: shrinking screenshots, optimizing UI mockups for sharing, compressing logos for web upload, reducing PNG screenshots saved from phones (often 5-10 MB each).

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the PNG stay transparent?

Yes - if you stick with PNG output, transparency is preserved. If you convert to JPG, transparent pixels become white (JPG doesn't support transparency). WebP supports transparency and is much smaller than PNG.

Why are PNG screenshots so large?

PNG is lossless - it stores every pixel exactly. A 1920x1080 screenshot can easily be 2-5 MB. For sharing screenshots, WebP at quality 90 is 5-10x smaller and visually identical.
