Add Page Numbers to Page Range

Sometimes you only want to number a subset of pages - skip the title page, table of contents, and blank sections; number only the main content. Specify the page range (e.g. 5-50), the starting number (e.g. start counting from 1 even though page 5 is the physical page), and the format. Multi-range support for documents with multiple numbered sections.

When to use this

Use for: academic theses (number main content separately from front matter), books with copyright / dedication / TOC pages that should stay unnumbered, reports with appendix sections that have their own numbering, contracts with annexures that get numbered independently.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I number front matter and main content separately?

Use multi-range mode: Range 1 = pages 1-4 with Roman numeral format (i-iv) for front matter, Range 2 = pages 5-50 with Arabic format (1-46) starting from 1. The output PDF has 'iv' on page 4 and '1' on page 5 - exactly like a printed book.

What if I want page numbers but every other page is blank?

Use the 'Skip blank pages' toggle. The tool detects content-empty pages and skips numbering them. Useful for booklets where blanks are intentional formatting but shouldn't break the numbering sequence.
